In November, Paul Mescal and Gracie Abrams’ dating rumours were all but confirmed with the two attending Paul’s latest Gladiator II premiere. Although they did not walk the red carpet together, Gracie and Paul were snapped at the afterparty. The photos were even shared to the film’s official TikTok account, but were later taken down. Until this point, all we’d heard was that the pair were “hooking up”, but we think it’s fair to assume they’re officially official, and serious.
Now, they’ve teased us with yet another almost-hard launch, with Gracie attending the Cannes premiere of Paul’s upcoming film, The History of Sound.
When Gracie and Pail were first spotted together last year, the chatter sparked by the photographs was just the latest in a series of relationship rumours that cropped up about Mescal in 2024. In March, the Irish actor sent fans into a frenzy when he posed for a selfie with The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri (commemorating St. Patrick’s Day, of course). While neither Mescal nor Edebiri spoke on the rumours, they quickly gave way to a new fan theory that the pair are actually working on a secret project together—which is also yet to be confirmed.
Mescal was then linked to Natalie Portman in May after they were seen together following Portman’s divorce from Benjamin Millepied. However, sources confirmed to multiple outlets at the time that the pair were just friends. He has also had to deal with a bizarre TikTok rumour that he was literally “running away” from dates and leaving them in a park—but more on that here.
If fans are hoping for confirmation on whether Mescal and Abrams are an item, don’t expect it to come from the actor. Following his very public split from musician Phoebe Bridgers in late 2022, Mescal decided to be cautious when disclosing details about his private life. Mescal told Vanity Fair in 2023, “I definitely feel the temptation to say the status of my whatever—that will always be there. But I don’t think that’s a wise thing to do … moving forward as much as I can, that’s going to be my life that is private.”
For the most part, Abrams has also remained coy about her dating life. The songstress previously dated songwriter Blake Slatkin for five years, before the couple called it quits in 2022. She has since been linked to actor Dylan O’Brien, as well as DJ Hayes Bradley, but neither rumoured relationship was ever confirmed.

June 2024: Mescal and Abrams Are Spotted On A Date
In June, TMZ published snaps of the pair on what appears to be a date at Brat restaurant in London. In the photographs, the pair can be seen talking while sat at a small table. In one, Mescal appears to reach over and touch Abrams’ face. An eyewitness told the outlet that the Normal People actor and the ‘us’ singer ordered several small plates to share.
News of the pair’s possible relationship was exciting and surprising for celebrity gossip followers, given the two are both major rising stars. While Paul, an Irish actor who at the time was taking centre stage in Gladiator II, his biggest blockbuster to date, is a well-established name in Hollywood, Abrams was also enjoying a growing music career and celebrity profile, thanks at least partially to her close friendship with Taylor Swift. Their star power has only risen in the months since.
July 2024: Mescal and Abrams Go Shopping In Mayfair
In photos published by The Daily Mail, the pair was seen shopping in Mayfair in London, and though they weren’t spotted together, they were in the same place within minutes of one another. According to sources who spoke to The Sun, “they went almost unnoticed”.
August 2024: Mescal and Abrams Seen In London
On August 19, Instagram gossip site Deux Moi posted a photo of the two holding hands while crossing a road in London. Further photos emerged two days later, showing Abrams biting Mescal’s finger. “They’ve been hooking up and it’s still early stages,” an unnamed insider told People. However, it seems they’ve been in ‘early stages’ for a while now, given they were first spotted on a date in June.
October 2024: Mescal Supports Gracie On Tour
For the first time, Mescal was spotted supporting Abrams while on the Eras Tour with Taylor Swift. He attended the Miami stop on October 20, and was spotted chatting in the VIP tent by showgoers. The next day, they were spotted looking relaxed while out on a date in New York City.
November 2024: They Are Spotted In NYC
Abrams attends the Gladiator II premiere and though they weren’t photographed together on the red carpet, a photo did circulate of them from the after party.
December 2024: Mescal Supports Abrams At Saturday Night Live
According to a video posted online, following Abrams’ performance on SNL, the pair arrived at the after party hand-in-hand.
May 2025: Abrams Supports Mescal In Cannes
In May, Abrams arrived to the red carpet premiere for The History of Sound shortly after Mescal. Though they once again walked the red carpet separately, there was little doubt that she was attending to support his leading role. Abrams wore a fitted Chanel gown with a beaded bodice, paired with Chanel High Jewellery pieces.
