Who Is Saoirse Ronan’s Husband, Jack Lowden?
Jack Lowden is an actor who was in Dunkirk, Slow Horses and Mary Queen Of Scots, where he met his now-wife Saoirse Ronan. Lowden’s career may be about to soar, given he received his first Emmy nomination in 2024 for his guest-starring role in Slow Horses.
Lowden was born on June 2, 1990, which means he is currently 34 years old and about three years older than Ronan. He was born in Chelmsford, a city located Northeast of London, but grew up in a village named Oxton along the Scottish border. In 2011, he graduated from the prestigious Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama after studying acting.
He also comes from a creative family, as his brother is a principal dancer at The Royal Swedish Ballet. Oddly enough, Saoirse was reportedly linked to his brother many moons ago, after it was rumoured that they’d met through mutual friends.

December 2018: The Saoirse & Jack Dating Rumours Begin
In December 2018, rumours of a relationship between Lowden and Ronan began circulating when they were spotted at an afterparty for Mary Queen of Scots, according to Page Six.
“We don’t know when they got together, we only found out on Tuesday night when they rolled up together—but they seem very happy and sweet,” a source told the publication.
To put it into context, Lowden and Ronan starred in the film as husband and wife, with Lowden playing Mary Queen of Scots’ feckless and ill-fated husband Lord Darnley.
While Ronan initaly denied there was on-set chemistry, Lowden has shared that for him it was love at first sight. In conversation with The Times promoting his production Slow Horses he said that when he’d been cast in Mary Queen of Scots he was ready to quit acting. Working with Ronan inspired him. “There was me at 27 thinking about stopping because I felt self-conscious or like I didn’t know how to do it. And then watching this 23-year-old carry the weight of a huge film like that with ease and grace and majesty. It was remarkable to watch. She makes it look so easy, like breathing. It was totally inspiring.”
Ronan initially denying that there was an on-set chemistry. But, come January 2019, Ronan and Lowden were seen at a local Glasgow pub, The Laurieston, during Mary Queen of Scots opening weekend.
May 2019: Saoirse & Jack Are Instagram Official
By May 2019, Lowden began sharing photos of Ronan on his Instagram, including a now-deleted pic of the actress getting ready for the Met Gala.

June 2021: The Couple Recreates A Braveheart Scene
Another year later, in June 2021, the couple prepared for the Euros soccer match between England and Scotland by hilarious recreating a scene from Mel Gibson’s Braveheart. Pretending they were riding horses, the duo pulled on their acting hats in the comfort of their home, seriously impressing friends and fans. One of which was The Crown‘s Josh O’Connor who said that their clip was “some of the best horse acting I’ve ever seen”.
January 2022: Saoirse Ronan Attends The Australian Open With Jack Lowden
Come January 2022, Lowden and Ronan made their first public appearance together as a couple, when they attended the Australian Open tennis competition. Their official appearance comes after Ronan was cast in the sci-fi thriller, Foe, which is being shot in Australia.
July 2023: Engagement Rumours Swirl
Rumours of an engagement began in 2023, when Jack posted a photo from Ben Vrackie mountain in Perthshire, Scotland, featuring a hand many belonged to Ronan. The big clue? The hand was wearing a diamond engagement ring. That photo has now been scrubbed from his IG feed, but there are others of the couples on their hiking holiday…
January 2024: Happy New Year
Saoirse features heavily on Jack Lowden’s Instagram with the actor sharing everything from happy snaps with his wife to trailers and promotions for her new film. In January 2024, the couple welcomed in the New Year with a mirror selfie of he and Soirse getting ready and the caption: “NYE. Lang May yer Lum Reek. 2024: Saoirse & Jack Collaborate On The Outrun
Way back in 2022, Lowden shared that Ronan is starring in a film that he’s producing with his production company Arcade Pictures—an adaption of Amy Liptrot’s memoir, The Outrun. Come 2024, the film has been touring the festival circuit and will be officially released in the coming year.
July 2024: Saoirse Ronan and Jack Lowden Get Married
Reports from British newspaper The Independent say the couple were married in Edinburgh, Scotland around July 20-21.
The paper reported on a record from the Scottish civil marriages record that shows a “Saoirse Una Ronan married Jack Andrew Lowden at the Edinburgh Central Registrar’s Office”. The publication added that the small ceremony was attended only by close friends and family.
September 2024: Saoirse and Jack Attend The 2024 Emmy Awards Together
Saoirse Ronan and Jack Lowden attended the 2024 Emmys, whee he is nominated for best supporting actor (drama) for his role in Slow Horses.
December 2024: Saoirse Opens Up About Her Relationship With Jack
In December Saoirse appeared on the podcast Ruthie’s Table with Ladybird with her Little Women director Greta Gerwig. The actor provided a rare insight into her relationship with her husband, sharing the moment she knew he was the one, a moment that involved a burger.
“I was eating a burger and I was like, ‘What are you looking at?’ He said, ‘I’m watching you eat that because you’re getting so much out of it.’ That was when I knew.” Relatable.
February 2025: Saoirse and Jack Attend the BAFTAS
In February 2025, Soirse and Jack attended the BAFTAS together. Ronan wore a soft green Louis Vuitton gown in crepe with a silk satin stole while Jack looked dashing in a tux.
